Lloyd Rayney Sues Forensic Investigator For Defamation

Lloyd Rayney was a prominent prosecutor. Several years ago, his wife Corryn Rayney was found buried in a bush grave at Perth's popular Kings Park in August 2007. He was named by the police as the prime suspect of the murder. He was acquitted of the charges.

Lloyd filed a defamation suit against the police and was awarded $2.6 million.

Now, Lloyd is suing Mark Reynolds, a forensic investigator, over comments allegedly made at a 2014 forensic conference.

It is clear that this murder case has affected Lloyd Rayney’s career. A tribunal recommended that he be struck off the WA roll for “professional misconduct”. An appeal against it was rejected. According to Martin Bennett, Rayney’s lawyer, a cloud remained over Mr Rayney's future career because of this, and that it is now up to the WA Supreme Court to determine whether Mr Rayney could keep his job.
